![]() ![]() ![]() One can only imagine what devious ideas he concocted while slaving away at his work in a funeral home. He relishes the unusual landscape of both the characters and the twisted worlds they inhabit. Goichi Suda was an undertaker before he was a game developer, and his macabre view of humanity is on display in all of his games. ![]() He redefined the Bounty Hunter genre with No More Heroes, made us fear Heaven Smiles in Killer 7, and used a 'Johnson' to terrorize the hordes of the underworld in Shadows of the Damned. Even in the chaotic splurge of violence that paints the canvas of his older titles and would come across as derivative in the hands of a less-skilled director, there's an unnerving order in Suda’s titles that has struck a deep chord with gamers. Afterall, even the tagline in the trailer reeks of a marketing bulletpoint dream: "Sex, Blood, and Rock & Roll." But when we consider it's Suda 51 at the helm - yes, the man who took over-the-top to another level - we have to understand that 'exploitative' and strange is his forte and works to Lollipop Chainsaw's benefit. The cynical might suggest "exploitative" as the better word. We've got a feeling this is going to be a varsity offering -Ĭonsidering the pedigree, I'd go for bizarre but brilliant. What is it about zombies and cheerleaders that appeal to so many gamers? Combine them with the mad genius of Suda 51 ( No More Heroes, Killer 7) at Grasshopper Manufacture along with director James Gunn (who, oddly enough, wrote both Dawn of the Dead and Scooby-Doo), and you have the potential for either the most bizarre, but brilliant, survival horror game of all time in Lollipop Chainsaw, or a lame Buffy the Vampire Slayer rip-off. ![]()
